The Hoparoma aroma forecast radar from a real device, plotting a recipe across seven aroma axes — Citrus, Tropical, Floral, Herbal, Spicy, Resin/Pine and Dank/Earthy — with the modelled profile drawn as a filled green polygon

See where your recipe lands — before you brew it

From your hops, malt, and yeast, Hoparoma computes the aroma-compound levels your recipe will produce — then plots the finished profile across seven sensory axes. A research-based read on how it will turn out, before brew day.

Thiol Forecast — the 4-axis thiol model

Most brewing apps tell you what hops to use. Hoparoma computes what your recipe is likely to smell like before you brew it, by combining four ingredient layers into one science-honest forecast.

01

YEAST

23 strains · β-lyase activity rated

Cosmic Punch, Helio Gazer, Hornindal Kveik, A04 Barbarian (Conan), Lutra, LalBrew New England. Each strain carries a thiol biotransformation activity score (0–1.0) that gates how much hop and malt thiol gets released.

02

HOP

51 varieties · free thiol potential rated

Galaxy 0.90, Nelson Sauvin 0.90, Citra 0.75, Mosaic 0.60, Cascade 0.25. Free thiol scoring based on internal medians from Yakima Chief, Hop Products Australia, and brewer community data.

03

MALT

41 entries · thiol precursor level rated

Hoparoma models malt's thiol contribution — the layer most apps leave out. Pale 2-row holds up to ~700 µg/kg of bound 3MH precursor. Roasted malts are thermally degraded; wheat, oat, and rye carry low non-barley precursor.

04

+ THIOL BOOSTER

Phantasm Powder · Propper Phantasm · future products

Additive amplification of the core 3 axes, normalized to dose per batch volume. Future-proof naming for upcoming booster products such as Tropics Boost and Apex Amplify.

The science behind the forecast

Built on peer-reviewed research from MDPI Fermentation (2022), Springer EFR&T (2022), DIAL UCL (2023), and PMC 9329171 (2024). Brewfather and BeerSmith model hop chemistry; Hoparoma integrates yeast × hop × malt × adjunct into a single thiol expression engine — including malt thiol precursor data most apps leave out.

New in 2.0 · Apple Intelligence

Your forecast, in words —
and a co-pilot that tunes it.

2.0 adds on-device AI, powered by Apple Intelligence. It reads the same 4-axis forecast and turns it into a tasting note you can actually read — then helps you steer the recipe toward the beer you're after.

Flavor Forecast

Reads your recipe. Writes the tasting note.

Apple Intelligence turns your predicted profile into a short, plain-language tasting note — the headline aroma, what sits underneath, and the finish. Generated entirely on device.

Sample output

Pillowy passionfruit over soft citrus

Galaxy and Citra push tropical thiols to the front, while a β-lyase yeast keeps the haze juicy rather than sharp.

Finish — clean, lightly dank, low bitterness.

AI co-pilot

Tell it the beer you want. It steers the recipe.

Say "more tropical, but not too bitter." The co-pilot reads your current build and proposes options — but every number comes from Hoparoma's prediction engine, not the language model. Each option shows a before/after radar and an honest trade-off.

  • More tropical
  • Raise the ABV
  • Like a West Coast IPA

Free · 5 AI sessions  |  Pro · unlimited

The Hoparoma AI co-pilot on iPhone: a What are you after prompt with the goal More tropical, then a proposed option to boost an existing hop, shown with a before/after aroma radar, the exact change (set Galaxy to 125g), and an honest trade-off.
The co-pilot, on device — goal in, options out, every number from the engine.

Flavor Forecast and the AI co-pilot run on Apple Intelligence and need iOS 26 on a supported iPhone. On other devices Hoparoma tells you plainly — and the full 4-axis forecast still works everywhere.

Mindful Recipe Presets

Mindful Hazy Session IPA

4.2% ABV · Cosmic Punch + Citra + Mosaic + 1.0 oz Phantasm

Thiol Forecast: 0.76 · high

Low-ABV hazy that doesn't sacrifice tropical aroma. Phantasm slider tunes intensity from 0.5 to 2.5 g/L.

Sober-Curious Session Pale

3.8% ABV · LalBrew New England + Galaxy + Nelson Sauvin

Thiol Forecast: 0.74 · high

Sub-4% pale ale built around thiol-rich Southern Hemisphere hops and a thiol-positive yeast strain.

Lot-level crop year data

Three libraries, one forecast

Every hop, yeast, and malt is rated for its thiol contribution — the data layer the forecast is built on.

Hops

51 varieties · 15 with lot-level crop year data

Free thiol potential scored for every variety. Hoparoma includes lot-level crop year data for 15 core varieties — each carries real 2024, 2025, and 2026 analytical lots (alpha acid, total oil, oil composition) you can switch between, so the radar reflects the exact crop you brewed with. Other varieties fall back to 4-year aggregate medians.

Free thiol potential · internal medians
Galaxy 0.90
Nelson Sauvin 0.90
Citra 0.75
Mosaic 0.60
Cascade 0.25

Lot-level crop year data shifts these values year over year. Mash-hop additions bank extra thiol precursors that a β-lyase yeast develops during fermentation.

Yeast

23 strains

Every yeast rated for thiol biotransformation activity. Availability badges tell you what you can actually source — from homebrew packs to pro-pitch-only strains.

  • Mainstream 11 g / 500 g dry packs or PurePitch / pouch
  • Limited Homebrew packs phased out, active in 0.5 hL pro pitch
  • Pro Pitch Only 0.5 hL or 1 BBL, recommended for craft breweries

Malt

41 entries

Models malt's thiol contribution — the layer most apps leave out. Brewfather and BeerSmith do not capture malt thiol precursor metadata. Hoparoma does — Pale 2-row holds up to ~700 µg/kg of bound 3MH precursor, while roasted malts are thermally degraded to near zero.

Designed in Tokyo

Modern IPAs amaze me every time I drink one — passion fruit and citrus, pillowy, full of surprise. But when I tried to brew like them myself, I never got close.

Hoparoma started in Tokyo with the hunch that real scientific analysis might finally close the gap. The radar chart visualizes your beer's character at a glance, and underneath, years of peer-reviewed research drive every calculation. Aroma compounds are quantified, not guessed.

Save a recipe, log how it actually brewed, refine it again. Over time you build a beer that's truly your own — guided by chemistry, not guesswork.

Frequently asked

What's the science behind 4-axis prediction?

Peer-reviewed research from MDPI Fermentation (2022), Springer EFR&T (2022), DIAL UCL (2023), and PMC 9329171 (2024) establishes that barley malt holds up to 700 µg/kg of bound 3MH precursor, hops carry both free and bound thiols, and yeast's β-lyase enzyme is the gate that unlocks all of them.

Is Hoparoma for homebrewers or craft brewers?

Both. The yeast and malt libraries include mainstream homebrew packs and pro-pitch-only strains for commercial breweries. Availability badges make it clear what you can source at your scale.

How does crop year data work?

Hoparoma includes lot-level crop year data for 15 core hop varieties. Each carries real 2024, 2025, and 2026 analytical lots — switching crop year updates alpha acid, total oil, and oil composition, and the forecast on the radar chart follows. Varieties without lot data use 4-year aggregate medians.

What does the Suggestion engine recommend?

The Suggestion engine surfaces in the Bento card after you compose a recipe. It analyzes your 4-axis thiol forecast and proposes 2–4 category-diverse next-batch tweaks — for example, "swap Citra for Galaxy to boost free thiol" or "Phantasm 1.0 → 1.5 g/L to amplify." Top 1 suggestion per category, so hops don't crowd out yeast, malt, or booster ideas.

Do I need a specific iPhone for the AI features?

Flavor Forecast and the AI co-pilot run on Apple Intelligence, which needs iOS 26 on a supported iPhone. Where it isn't available, Hoparoma says so plainly instead of hiding the button — and the full 4-axis Thiol Forecast, libraries, and tasting log work on every supported device, AI or not.
